Photographs

This is my Photography photographs which I took manually with a Nikon SLR camera, as you can see the overall theme is of Nature and Everyday Life. All the photos are taken with a specific genre in mind, this is indicated by the heading of the particular photo.

Close-Up#1

Close up tree 1

Close up Tree

This is the first nature close up that which has been included in the portfolio of photos.
As there was strong sun on this day, the ISO level was set to 100.
I focused on the leaves and branches, and this resulted in a blurred background; due to the 55mm zoom, and the aperture settings to focus on the leaves, branches and berries – which results in blurred background.

Close-Up #2

Close Up Leaf

Close Up Leaf

This is another nature close up that which has been included in the portfolio of photos.
As there was strong sun on this day, the ISO level was again, set to 100.
I focused on the leaves, and this resulted in a blurred background; due to the 55mm zoom, and the aperture settings were set to focus on the leaves – which resulted in a blurred background.

Close-Up #3

Close Up Multiple Flowers
This is another nature close up that which has been included in the portfolio of photos.
As there was strong sun on this day, the ISO level was again, set to 100.
I focused on the flowers on the branch, and this resulted in a blurred background; due to the 55mm zoom, and the aperture settings were set to focus on the small white petals and pollen of the flower – which then resulted in the creation of a blurred background.

Close-Up #4

Close Up Tree Flower

Close Up Tree Flower

This is another nature close up that which has been included in the portfolio of photos.
As there was strong sun on this day, the ISO level was again, set to 100.
I focused on the nearest leaves and branches, and this resulted in a blurred background; due to the 55mm zoom and the aperture settings – which resulted in a blurred background.

Creative Reflection #1

Door Handle Reflection

Door Handle Reflection

In order to achieve this photo of a chrome door handle, I altered the ISO sensitivity to be  set to 400 – due to the lack of sunlight in the room, so I had to increase the ISO sensitivity.
And with the aperture settings set to focus on the handle, which then resulted in different parts of the door being exposed to more/less light and some parts of the door being in-focus and out of focus.

Creative Reflection #2

Water Reflection

Water Reflection

In order to achieve this photo of tree and greenery reflections on a pond, I altered the ISO sensitivity to be  set to 100 – due to the amount of direct sunlight in the area, so I had to alter the ISO sensitivity.
And with the aperture settings set to focus on the tops of the wooden fence slabs, which then resulted in fully focused wooden fence slabs – which then blurred the scenery and water reflections in the background; which gave an impressive effect on the photo.

Creative Reflection #3

Polo Mint Reflection

Polo Mint Reflection

In order to achieve this photo of three polo mints, I altered the ISO sensitivity to be set to 200 – due to the lack of sunlight in the room, this created a rather dark photo, however the two key points of the photo (polo mints & surface) were white, this created an interesting photo.
And with the aperture settings set to focus on the three polo mints, which then resulted in the background becoming blurred. Also the use of a shiny white surface allowed a creative reflection to occur – hence, creating a rather intriguing and effective photo.

Unusual Close-Up #1

Close Up Tree Trunk

Close Up Tree Trunk

In order to achieve this photo of an unusual piece of wood, I altered the ISO sensitivity to be  set to 200 – due to the sunlight which was present; was being blocked by some tree’s – so there was not a huge amount of sunlight shining through – so I had to alter the ISO sensitivity.
And with the aperture settings set to focus on the unusual ‘piece of wood’, which then resulted in the background being blurred out – resulting in a higher emphasis on the object.

Unusual Close-Up #2

Close Up Fence Stump

Close Up Fence Stump

In order to achieve this photo of a close-up photo of a top of fence stump, I altered the ISO sensitivity to be  set to 200 – due to the sun going down as it was early evening, so I had to alter the ISO sensitivity appropriately.
And with the aperture settings set to focus on the top of the fence stump, led to the background bushes and tree’s in the image being blurred out beyond recognition – resulting a huge emphasis on the fence stump.

Landscape (Contrasting) #1

Day Country Landscape

Day Country Landscape

In order to achieve this daytime country themed landscape photo, I stood on top of the hill and altered the ISO sensitivity to 200. If it had been earlier I probably would have altered the ISO to 100, but as the sunlight was going down as I was taking the photo, I changed the ISO to 200, as it seemed more suitable for the photo – this resulted in a lovely photo capturing the quite and peaceful surroundings as the sun is setting for the day.

Landscape (Contrasting) #2

Night City Landscape

Night City Landscape

In order to achieve this night time city themed landscape photo, I captured the photo from a building window – as this allowed a clear and scenic view of the busy city night in front of me. To achieve this, altered the ISO sensitivity to 1600 as there was almost no light whatsoever, only light was from home windows, streetlights and cars – which resulted in a difficulty in capturing a clear photo; which is why the ISO settings were set to 1600. If it had been earlier with more natural light, or there were more lights present, then I probably would have altered the ISO to 800, but as there was not, the ISO sensitivity was set to 1600 due to suitability.

Blurred Action Shot

Blurred Car

Blurred Car

In order to achieve this photo of a blurred moving car, I used a tripod to keep the camera still, as i did not want to alter or distort the photo. I then set the shutter speed to one sixth of a second (1/6), this allowed the photo to capture the vehicle moving, and the shutter speed led to the blurring of the vehicle.
Also, the ISO sensitivity was set to 200, as there was a substantial amount of sunlight present during the photo being taken.

Blurred Still Shot

Fireplace (before)

Fireplace (before)

Fireplace (after)

Fireplace (after)

Here are two photos, both photos are of an electric fireplace. There are two photos as they are before and after photo’s of an effect being put on the photos. The effect altered the entire look of the electric fireplace. The first image looks like a close up of what it actually is, an electric fireplace. Whereas; the second photo, the after photo, looks as though it is a real man-made fire which you would see under a chimney or in the woods whilst camping.

In order to achieve the photos, both photos were set to a focus of 55mm. But the difference between the photos is the amount of focal blur. In the before photo, the photo was focused correctly and perfectly, however the after photo was not focused at all, this led to the focal blur creating a totally different and unique effect.

Meaningful Lyric/Poem Captured Visually

Starin' At The World Through My Rearview

“Starin’ At The World Through My Rearview” – Tupac Shakur

This photo was taken, with the iconic and one of the all time favourite and great musician’s song title in mind, Tupac Shakur’s “Starin’ At The World Through My Rearview”. The song title means that some people live their lives extremely fast, and do not look back on what they have done and achieved, and this song is a reminder for people to see what they have done and achieved and seen where they have come from to where they are now.

To create this photo, I set the ISO sensitivity to 200 as there was a substantial amount of sunlight for the photo t0 be efficiently taken. I then focused on the rear view mirror, rather than the reflection in the mirror, this led to the effect of the mirror being fully focused and the reflection being blurred. This is to identify and relate back to the song title and meaning of moving too fast, hence the blur in the mirror.

Series Narrative (5 Image Narrative)

Photo 1: In photo one, there is duck who appears to be bored, maybe even waiting for someone or something to arrive. The duck looks around, rather bored and looking for something to do or use up some time.

Photo 2: In photo two, the duck decided to scratch and itch himself, and then groom/clean himself, which appears to be his chosen activity to kill some time.

Photo 3: In photo three, the duck decides to walk away, and walk around the corner, in this case, to walk around the muddy earth and bushes on the side of the embankment of the pond/river.

Photo 4: In the penultimate photo of the series; upon traveling around the embankment, the duck bumps into another duck, assuming this was what the duck he was waiting for earlier.

Photo 5: In the final photo, after the initial greetings and embracing between the pair of them, the two ducks walk off together and start their journey together.

All five of the photos were taken with the same settings throughout the narrative series of photos. The ISO sensitivity was set to 200, as the sunlight was present, but setting due to the time of the day. All photos were taken with high quality and fully focused in order to achieve and see all the actions which the duck were doing/performing.

Close Up Angled Portrait

Close Up Angled Portrait

Close Up Angled Portrait

In order to achieve this close up portrait photo, there were some settings which needed to be set in order to take a clear and high quality photo. I set the ISO sensitivity to 400, as there was some artificial lighting present in the room, but still needed an increase in the ISO settings to achieve a high quality photo.
The aperture was set to focus on the face in the photo, and blur out the background in the photo.

Portrait Pose #1

Portrait Pose 1

Portrait Pose 1

In order to achieve this photo, there were some settings which needed to be set in order to take a clear and high quality photo. I set the ISO sensitivity to 400, due to the fact that there was some artificial lighting  in the room, but it was still not bright enough for low ISO settings; it still needed an increase in the ISO settings to achieve a high quality photo.
The use of the white background, made the entire body stand out more with much more emphasis.

Portrait Pose #2 and #3

Portrait Pose 2

Portrait Pose 2

Portrait Pose 3

Portrait Pose 3

In order to achieve these two photos, there were some settings which needed to be set in order to take a clear and high quality photo. I set the ISO sensitivity to 400, as there was some artificial spot-lighting present in the room and being shone on the face, it resulted in an effect on the face in the photo, creating a bright tone on the skin. But I still increased the ISO settings to achieve a different effect on the image – it gave the image a more crisp and added emphasis on the focal point of the photos, the body, rather than the background of the images.
The spot light which was shone onto the body, created a shadow effect on the surface where the body was leaning – this created a nice shadow effect on both photos.
